Adam Cheyer is a highly influential figure in AI and computer-human interfaces, best known as the co-founder of Siri and Viv Labs. With over 60 peer-reviewed publications and 39 patents, he has firmly established himself as an authority in emerging technologies. A world-renowned inventor and entrepreneur, Adam is a popular speaker in the tech world, often delivering fascinating presentations on the future of AI and business and delving into AI sentience. Educated at Brandeis University, Adam earned a BA in Computer Science before enrolling at UCLA to obtain an MS in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. He began his career as Sr Software Engineer at Bull SA before becoming a Sr Computer Scientist at the Artificial Intelligence Center and Co-Director at the Computer-Human Interaction Center at SRI International. Adam moved on to work for Verticalnet as Senior Director of Advanced Products and Strategy and later Vice President of Engineering and Enterprise Products. In 2002 he served as Vice President of Engineering at Dejima before returning to SRI International as a Program Director at the AI Center, working on the US government’s largest funded AI project.
He rose to mainstream prominence as the co-founder and Vice President of Engineering at Siri Inc, the world’s first notable application of a virtual assistant for a mobile phone. Apple acquired Siri in 2010, and Adam joined the company as an Engineering Director, responsible for server-side engineering and AI for Siri assistant. Adam also co-founded Sentient Technologies, a software development company and the world’s first conversion optimisation platform to use AI. In 2012 Adam co-founded Viv Labs, leading engineering and developer relations before Samsung acquired the company to use its technology as the basis for its voice assistant Bixby. Joining Samsung in 2016, Adam became the Vice President of R&D.
At the forefront of innovation in AI, Adam has held several advisory roles with notable organisations, including Spatial Labs, Brilliant Labs, Evolv Technologies, Riva Health and Otter AI. He is a Venture Partner at Project Voice Capital Partners, a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence and a founder of Change.org. Recognised for his pioneering contributions to computer-human interfaces, he received an AI Tech Award from AI DevWorld and the Upstart 100 Award, Inventor Category by Upstart Business Journal.
