Ilya Sutskever

Ilya Sutskever has undertaken the lofty goal to ensure that artificial general intelligence is beneficial to everyone, inching towards achieving it with every passing day. With skyrocketing recognition in the past few years, owing to his role as Co-Founder and Chief Scientist of OpenAI, Ilya has reformed the trajectory of artificial intelligence and technology. Ilya’s association with Geoffrey began when he was completing his Bachelor’s in Mathematics and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Toronto. Since then, they have co-created AlexNet – a system that revolutionized image recognition.

In 2013 Ilya joined as a Research Scientist for Google Brain where he invented Sequence to Sequence Learning that bolstered Google Translate’s success immensely. After nearly 3 years at Google, Ilya progressed to OpenAI, working with Sam Altman and Elon Musk, where he led the invention of GPT-1, the precursor of ChatGPT.  Through his role at OpenAI, Ilya has established his prowess in deep learning, the branch of machine that uses neural networks to learn from data.

A Fellow at The Royal Society, Ilya is one of the sharp minds behind several inventions such as DeepMind’s AlphaGo and Google Brain’s Tensor.
