Toju Duke is the Programme Manager for Responsible AI at Google. A foremost expert on eliminating bias in data sets, she founded Diverse AI to encourage more representation of minorities in the AI industry. Warning tech leaders of the dangers of AI bias, Toju is a highly sought-after consultant who offers prominent organisations advice on creating more diversity and inclusion across AI technology. Sharing her expertise in speaking engagements, Toju delves into the purpose of responsible AI and offers a framework for building more representative AI technology.
Holding three degrees, Toju completed a BSc in Sociology at Bayero University, Kano, an MA in International Design, Marketing and Communication from The University of Huddersfield, and recently an MSc in Artificial Intelligence at Bircham International University. A highly experienced marketing expert, Toju has held several roles, beginning with Business Development/ Marketing Assistant at Kajans Women’s Enterprise before joining Bargainz Central as a Marketing Assistant.
She became a Marketing Assistant at TechEnergy Corp and TBG Learning in 2012. Demonstrating exceptional marketing knowledge, Toju was invited to join Google as a Dynamic Ads Specialist in 2013, holding roles including Shopping Specialist, Hotel Ads Specialist, and Product lead before becoming Programme Manager on Responsible AI. At Google, Toju is responsible for managing diversity and inclusion projects across the research and product teams, ensuring that the technology conforms to her responsible AI objectives.
Knowledgeable about the underlying technology used to create AI, Toju emphasises the importance of eliminating bias at the machine-learning stage in her book Building Responsible AI Algorithms. A prominent advocate for ethical AI, Toju became an Ethical AI Network Member of The Institute for Ethical AI & Machine Learning and an Ambassador for Women in AI. Invited to speak at the Surrey and The London AI Summits in 2023, Toju demonstrated her industry-leading insight into responsible AI. She is now available to hire for speaking engagements, where she explores the importance of creating inclusive AI technology, stressing the dangers of bias in machine learning data sets.
