David Gee is a highly respected technology executive, advisor and keynote speaker whose work bridges artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital risk. With over 25 years in senior technology leadership roles, he is recognised for guiding organisations through the fast-moving intersection of innovation and security. Now retired from full-time executive positions and focused on his portfolio career, David brings clarity and authority to boardrooms, conferences and publications worldwide, where his expertise in AI-driven risk, cyber resilience and digital transformation continues to set him apart.

Over the course of his career, David held some of the most senior roles in global technology and risk. He served as Global Head of Technology, Cyber and Data Risk at Macquarie Group, and earlier as Chief Information Security Officer for HSBC Asia Pacific. His leadership extended across industries and geographies, including time as CIO of MetLife Japan, Eli Lilly and Credit Union Australia, where he oversaw a transformative overhaul of core banking, online and mobile systems that earned him the CIO of the Year Award in 2014. In addition, David chaired the FS-ISAC Strategy Committee, guiding industry-wide resilience, and was recognised with the Global Leaders Award in 2023 for his contributions to the cybersecurity profession.

Alongside his executive career, David has established himself as a prolific thought leader. He has published more than 150 articles across CIO, CSO, Computerworld, Foundry and the Australian Institute of Company Directors, shaping debate on cybersecurity, AI risk, quantum technology and leadership. His best-selling book, The Aspiring CIO & CISO (2024), was quickly recommended in lists of essential reading for security leaders, while his second title, A Day in the Life of a CISO, is set for release in October 2025. These works combine career guidance with deep industry insight, reflecting his commitment to equipping the next generation of leaders. His role as Advisor with Bain Advisory Network, JS Careers and Emertel, and appointment in 2025 as Ambassador for CI-ISAC Australia, further underline his continued influence on technology and cyber governance worldwide.

David is also an in-demand keynote speaker, having addressed audiences at major events including the RSA Conference, Gartner Tokyo Summit, Asian Banker Summit, FST Future of Financial Services, and Hong Kong Institute of Bankers, where audiences have ranged from intimate board-level groups to more than 3,500 delegates. His talks explore AI’s impact on technology, cyber and data risk, future-facing leadership, and practical lessons drawn from decades in CIO and CISO roles. Known for his incisive, engaging style, David offers senior leaders clear frameworks for navigating complex challenges – from AI governance and digital transformation to quantum risk and board-level cyber strategy.
