Jimena Sofía Viveros Álvarez is a globally recognised speaker and expert on artificial intelligence, renowned for her pioneering work at the intersection of AI, international law, and peace and security. As Founder, Managing Director and CEO of IQuilibriumAI, she leads a consultancy dedicated to addressing the impact of AI across humanitarian, environmental, and rule of law domains, with a strong emphasis on Global South resilience. She also heads the HumAIne Foundation and created the Global South Synergies and Resilience Platform, reflecting her commitment to inclusive, globally-conscious AI governance.

Her leadership in international AI policy is underscored by her appointment to the United Nations Secretary-General’s High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence, where she co-leads efforts focused on peace and security. She also serves as Commissioner for the Global Commission on Responsible AI in the Military Domain (GC-REAIM), and as an AI Expert for the OECD, contributing to key working groups on risk, accountability, and incident response. Her legal career spans major international institutions, including the International Criminal Court, International Criminal Tribunals for Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia, and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. In Mexico, she has served as Chief of Staff and Legal Advisor to a Supreme Court Justice, held senior posts at the Federal Judicial Council, and worked at director general level in both the Ministry of Security and Civilian Protection and the Federal Tax and Finance Prosecutor’s Office. These roles have grounded her AI advocacy in deep institutional and legal expertise.

An accomplished author and speaker, she has published numerous works, including Autonomous Weapons Systems: The Accountability Conundrum (2021), The Ultimate and Perhaps the Last Paradigm Shift – Artificial Intelligence (2021), and Drone Swarms as Weapons of Mass Destruction (2024). She was named to Apolitical’s Government AI 100 in 2025, reflecting her global stature. Fluent in five languages and completing her PhD at Cologne University, she continues to shape the international dialogue on AI through lectures, seminars, and high-profile events across the world.
