Maarten began his career as an Analytical Consultant at Dunhumby, where he developed expertise in data analytics and consumer insight. He continued to build his reputation within major organisations, including Royal Mail and Catalina Marketing. At Catalina Marketing, he progressed from SAS Automation Manager to Product and Innovation Manager, overseeing the development of data-driven marketing solutions and advanced analytics strategies. He later joined Colruyt Group as a freelance Data Scientist, leading data-driven innovation within the customer analytics team. In 2016, Maarten founded Clever, initially operating as a data science consultancy before pivoting towards conversational AI solutions. The company’s success led to its acquisition by Zoovu, after which Maarten served as Managing Director. Following his exit, he became Senior Principal Consultant at AE and later Technology Lead at Nexxworks, advising organisations on digital transformation and emerging technologies. Since 2025, he has served as an AI Researcher at VIVES University of Applied Sciences, where he leads the AWARE project, an initiative using AI to strengthen the human firewall in cybersecurity.
