Rumman Chowdhury

Rumman Chowdhury is a distinguished expert on AI and humanity. A leading data scientist and social scientist specialising in applied algorithmic ethics, she is an authority on ethical and transparent AI. The Chief Scientist at Parity Consulting, she is responsible for AI assessments and implementation services, regularly working with leading clients, including the European Commission, the UK Office of Communications, Meta, and DeepMind. At the forefront of AI, Rumman is a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center and a highly sought-after speaker on ethical AI.

Highly educated, Rumman earned a BS in Political Science, Management Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before completing an MS in Quantitative Methods at Columbia University. In 2009, she obtained a PhD in Political Science and Government at the University of California, San Diego, specialising in Urban Politics, State and Local Politics and Quantitative Methods. She began her career as an Associate Economist at The Conference Board before joining Princeton Brand Econometrics as an Associate Director of Forecast Operations. In 2012 she became a Short Term Consultant at the Vera Institute of Justice.

She held the role of Graduate Research Assistant at the University of California San Diego Graduate School of International Relations between 2011 and 2013. In 2014, Rumman became Short Term Consultant at the University of California Student Association before joining The World Bank as a Short Term Consultant to conduct a quasi-experiment to assess water projects in rural Indonesia. During the same period, she joined Quotient Technology as an Analytics Scientist, rapidly progressing to Data Science Manager in 2016. She became Senior Data Scientist at Metis before joining Accenture AI as a Senior Principal in Artificial Intelligence in 2017. Building outstanding expertise in AI, she was elevated to Managing Director at Accenture AI in 2018.

In 2020, Rumman founded Parity AI and became a Startup Advisor with Creative Destruction Lab. She served as a Director of Machine Learning Ethics, Transparency and Accountability at Twitter in 2021 before co-founding Bias Buccaneers, a non-profit specialising in algorithmic bias, in 2022. Moreover, Rumman served as a Board Member of the UK Center for Data Ethics and Innovation and has firmly established herself as a global leader in ethical AI with her pioneering work on mitigating bias in AI systems. In recognition of her contributions to AI, she was included on BBC 100 Women and named one of the Five Who Are Shaping AI by Forbes. Working at the intersection of AI and humanity, Rumman has become the go-to speaker on ethical and transparent AI and is regularly booked for presentations.
